Who we are
A transatlantic partnership.
Two Hungry Bowlers is the creative venture of a British-American husband-and-wife team, whose appetite for great storytelling is matched only by their love of adventure.
Our partnership brings a particular perspective to publishing. We combine British literary sensibilities with American commercial dynamism, creating a house that values both artistic merit and reader engagement — and works out of a cosy office that houses both PG Tips and Community Coffee.
We are a boutique operation, and that is deliberate. It means personal attention to every title, from the first draft to the finished book, and a close relationship with readers.
What we publish
Crime and mystery with a strong sense of place, from Bristol and the Cornish coast to Stockholm and the honky-tonks of Austin, Texas. Fiction that crosses cultures. And humour that takes nonsense very seriously indeed.
Our list is written under two names: Julien St. James for crime, mystery and fiction, and Henri Penuer for humour.
What we look for
We're always on the lookout for stories that cross borders, challenge expectations, and speak to the heart of human experience — just as our own story does.
The name
Two bowler hats, two people, and — as anyone who has worked through a manuscript knows — a permanent appetite. It seemed to fit.
